Private learn to skate lessons

Private rollerskating lessons

Want a quieter space to learn new skills and practise?

One of our long term volunteers, Jade, will be holding her own private lessons under Skate Norfolk, catering towards total beginners to those who feel more confident on their skates and are looking for new skills to learn.

About the coach

Jade has been volunteering with Skate Norfolk since 2016, teaching the grades and showing new skaters how to get started, which has given her experience in teaching a wide range of abilities and age groups. Through Skate Norfolk, she was put in contact with Stalham Artistic Roller Skating club, where she has been able to advance her skills – being coached by 10x British champion Emily Woods, and her coach Martin Pickering. This further ignited her passion for rollerskating and she has since competed, and won medals, in competitions across the UK in artistic roller dance.

Private lessons will be held under the name of Skate Norfolk and so the Skate Norfolk waiver will need to be signed prior to any lessons for insurance purposes. Jade holds a valid DBS, child protection and sports first aid certificate.

Neurodivergent / SEND skaters

Jade is keen to provide lessons that are accommodating to individuals who may not feel comfortable in a busy group session

”Being autistic myself, I understand that crowded sessions with loud music and lots of chatter isn’t for everyone. Throughout my years of volunteering with Skate Norfolk, I have both spoken with, and taught, many skaters/parents who have shared experiences of feeling overwhelmed or anxious at busy sessions, I am therefore particularly keen in providing the opportunity to learn rollerskating to those who find that a regular session may not be suitable for them.

I feel that my personal experience with neurodiversity has given me a great understanding of how to adapt my methods of teaching for each individual, ensuring that you can get the most out of each session whilst building confidence. Rollerskating is a huge part of my life, and I would love to share my passion with others.”

Prices / Location / Times

Prices for 1 hour lesson

1:1 – £10 PLUS HALL HIRE

1:2 – £15 PLUS HALL HIRE

1:3 – £20 PLUS HALL HIRE

(more details on hall hire prices down below)

I will kindly ask for the hall hire payment to be transferred to me at the time of booking the hall in order to secure your slot.

Location

All of my lessons will be based in Norwich in various sports halls.

Recommended halls:

Sewell Park high school – £25 per hour (+my own hourly rate)

Sprowston High school – £25 per hour (+my own hourly rate)

Bob Carter centre Drayton – £30 per hour (+my own hourly rate)

Please note that these charges are not set by me, and I do not profit off of the hall hire charge. These are the cheapest suitable halls that I am currently aware of in Norwich.

If you have another Norwich hall in mind, please feel free to let me know, however it should be noted that not all halls allow rollerskating and not all are suitable, so I can find this information out for you prior to booking a lesson with me.

Times

The timing of lessons will largely depend on the chosen hall’s availability. School halls are typically only available evenings and weekends. Bob Carter center in Drayton has more midweek daytime availability.

I myself am unavailable for private lessons between the hours of 11am and 5pm on most Saturdays and Sundays, but am flexible all other times of the week.

The best thing to do, would be to send me a list of rough days/times that would work for you, and I can let you know the current availability of both the halls and myself, and we can go from there.

FAQs

Do I need my own skates? It is preferable, but if you let me know your size in advance, I can see about sorting some hire skates out for you.

Can I use inline skates? No, I am only able to teach rollerskating on quad skates.

What kind of skating do you teach? I teach artistic style rollerskating, if you’re looking for jam/rhythm skating, this isn’t for you!

What will I learn? My lessons will largely be guided by you! If there is a specific skill you would like to learn – let me know! Alternatively, if you aren’t sure what you would like to work on, I have plenty of suggestions that we can discuss for various levels, including but not limited to: skating on one foot/edges, backwards skating, jumps, spinning, turns, different body positions such as little man and arabesques. To get the most out of the lesson, feel free to discuss with me in advance what you are keen to work on.

What if I need to cancel? Once the hall booking has been confirmed, unfortunately I am unable to refund the hall hire cost, however you will not be charged for my coaching if you do not attend.
